Growth, Impact, and Relationship. My Last Day at Startup Riliv.
September 2019, was my first month working as a UI/UX Designer at Riliv, I was the first Fulltime in this role.
I was quite happy because I got a job before graduation, at that time I was still bad at this field, but fortunately I was trusted by the Co-Founders, Aldi (Previous UI/UX Designer), and Mas Yoki (Riliv’s Mentor) to carry out this responsibility. They thought that my eagerness to learn, visual design skills, and tech development knowledge would lead me to become a good UI/UX Designer.
The journey of working in a Startup as a single UI/UX Designer with a new dedicated team — — until finally we succeeded in creating Number 1 Mental Health App in Indonesia. I will tell you 3 main points that made me happy to work for 2 years…
Growth
At that time my mentor once said that “Riliv is the best and ideal place to learn and apply all the learing to real case”, I totally agreed. In this place I was forced to continue to learn and improve myself, as if my personal quality directly affects the quality of the digital products I worked on, we all tried to find new learning in Articles, Books, Webinars, Mentors, or even other Startups for us to adopt in Riliv.
Good leadership was the key to our freedom to learn and experiment, leadership that was always open to new things and gave us full trust. That’s why we can continued to improve the company’s work flow and the products we worked on. Outside the office, I often hear stories from my friends about the leadership of other companies who are too rigid and not open to new good things, which is unfortunate.
Impact
Because at that time we were a small team, so every activity or step we took will have a direct impact on the Company or Product, of course we always tried to give a good impact. With knowledge that was regularly updated, we learned and applied many things to produce great outcomes, such as increasing Retention and Conversion rates at Product Riliv.
In The Product Team we learned a fancy things such as Design Thinking, Scrum, Hooked Models, Design System, Data Analytics, UX Research, and so on. However, we continued to improve these things to find the most efficient way or method to generate real impact for both business and users, we’re very agile and experimental.
With a good team work, eagerness to learn, high product ownership, and focus on goals, for 2 years we have succeeded in increasing Daily Active users by approximately 500%, having a fairly high Retention Rate for Paid User on day 30, Conversion Rates that increase constantly every month, have won the Best Hidden Gem App 2019 award from the Google Playstore, and many more. I used to tell my friends back then that the opportunity to create a real impact at Riliv was an experience I wouldn’t get anywhere else.
Relationship
I remember good WFO moments like when Aima grumbled because of complaints from customers or clients, Kultum from Bang Indra when we were bored, intense debate between Mbak Geby and Mas Fandi in 09.00 AM, Novi who always came home late, Dea who was tired of my impressions about her friends, Dani who always fought with me, Nadhom and Dimas who always accompanied me at Konekamis, Mbak Vida and Mas Ian who always relate to IT topics, Mbak Adis who was always fun and responds to my dad jokes very well, Mas Maxi and Mas Audy who are always the best mentors for me (They are Forbes 30 Under 30), and many more.
I think this will be a good long term relationship, even though we are no longer together as professionals, at least we have a personal relationship. I also always hope that Riliv will be even better, currently we are hiring for many positions, this team will grow bigger and hopefully can still have a good wellbeing culture.
In the end…
It used to be hard when I had to let my friends go. September 2021, it’s my turn, to go with a good way and reason I think. But, whoever leaves will be replaced with a better people, said Yansen Kamto (Our mentor in the early stage). I believe Riliv is taking a big role in solving Mental Health problems in Indonesia, a cool task that will bring together great people with the same vision.
