Whatever your role in life, it’s matter

As long as you do your best, respect each other, and never be arrogant. The world is so exhausting, there’s no time to look down on each other.

As Indonesians, we often compare our professions with one another, we often feel we are superior to others, we often underestimate the professions of others. To discuss this one by one would take too many sentences, here I will give a few examples that often occur…

Cases from Enterpreneurs and Employees

Many people think that to be successful you have to be an entrepreneur, some entrepreneurs also say the same thing, some of them say in a talkshow to people to immediately resign from their jobs and start a business, because by becoming employees we will never be successful.

If there are bosses who think that way, do they indirectly underestimate the life choices of their employees? Do they indirectly feel superior to their employees? If everyone became an entrepreneur, then who would take on the role of an employee? Who will innovate and work to grow the company bigger?

Humans are born into the world to carry out a special role in life. We must understand that not everyone has the talent to be an entrepreneur, not everyone has a strong mentality, not everyone grows and develops in a supportive environment, not everyone has a large capital, and not everyone is in a condition to dare to take bigger risk.

Sometimes, someone is born to be very skilled in a certain field, they can become very reliable professionals and can make a bigger impact in the world, maybe things that entrepreneurs can’t do. Maybe good entrepreneurs are those who can appreciate and see the potential of their employees to be able to always develop wherever their life goes.

Other Cases

Apart from the stories of entrepreneurs and employees, there are many more stories of rejection by some of us to other professions.

Some of us hate Police, hate their arrogant behavior and don’t do their job well. Some of us don’t accept PNS who work lazily and only spend our tax money for nothing.

Some parents forbid their children to become musicians, because they think the income of this profession is unstable. Some modern people view Farmer as a low level job in society. Many people always assume that everyone in the government is corrupt.

Why do we look down on other professions?

I think this is all just biased thinking, there are two things I can see from my observations. The first reason could be because we focus too much on the bad side of these professions, this reason is because we don’t understand or open our minds more broadly. Not everyone does bad things, also the existence of a profession is because there is a need and impact, here are the examples:

  • Police — Their role is very important to protect society and maintain security, without the Police there will be a lot of crime in society. We just hate the arrogant and irresponsible characters of some of them, there are still a lot of police who do a good job.
  • Musicians — Their role is very important to maintain our mood and mind, we can rise again from sadness, we can be happier, and we can be more enthusiastic to study or work. Many souls have been saved because of music, I think parents must have felt that impact on them. They are just worried because they see some Musicians can’t live properly, even though many have been very successful.
  • Farmers — Their role is very important in providing us with a daily supply of rice, every day we can eat nutritious food, we can do more productive activities because of that. We are just blind, underestimate the farmers who every day have a big impact on every citizen of this country. They have been more than enough in helping our lives.

The second reason is that we may underestimate other professions to make us feel and look superior to others, it could be because we are envious of others, it could be just because we are looking for proof from others about our success . Lastly, it could be because our hearts are dirty, it makes us think and do bad things to other people. This reason is proof that we are just an asshole.

What should we do?

Each of our roles in life is important, we are connected to each other, we have one good goal to make the world a little better. We just need to carry out our roles as best we can, so the impact we give can be bigger and wider.

If only no one in Government was involved in corruption, if only all Police officers really protected the people, if only all PNS worked optimally to serve citizen. If only everyone gave support to musicians, so they could continue to produce good musics to save all of our souls. And if only all the roles did their job well, surely the world would really be better.

If maximizing our role is a difficult thing, then at least we can start by respecting each other, so everyone can be more confident in their role.
